AUSKey Soon to be Cancelled – Are You Ready?
In case you’ve missed it – the Australian Taxation Office (ATO) will be retiring the AUSKey service on 27 March 2020, with a view to replacing it with myGovID and Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM). This means if you’re currently using AUSKey to access the Business Portal, and you’re yet to sign up for MyGovID, you have just a few weeks to get on the new platform.
What’s Changing?
AUSKey and Manage ABN Connections are to be replaced by myGovID and Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM) by 27 March 2020. myGovID aims to provide a more seamless, secure, integrated, faster and easier point of access to the ATO’s Business Portal and other online government services. The myGovID service allows you to manage a vast range of services for your business all in the one place. These include the Business Portal, the Australian Business Register (ABR); Health Products Portal; Employer Support Payment Scheme; Aged Care Portals; the Grant Recipient Portal; and much more. Importantly, it is also the place where businesses can manage their tax & super affairs.
Through the Relationship Authorisation Manager (RAM), business owners can manage who can access online services on behalf of your business. Note that everyone you authorise to act on behalf of your business will also need their own myGov login.
What Now?
To get set up on myGovID, there are a few steps to follow. First of all, check the ABR and ensure your details are up to date. Once you’ve confirmed they are correct, download the myGovID app to your compatible smart device and add your identity documents to set up your account. From here you can link your ABN.
Once that is set up, you can log into RAM using your myGovID. Select “Link Your Business” and follow the steps. You’ll need to be listed as a sole trader or eligible associate of the business in the ABR to be able to link your business.
Current Roadblocks
At the time of writing, the ATO are in the process of ironing out a few kinks in their system. In a situation where a trust has a trustee company, and the trustee company does not have an ABN or TFN in its own right, individuals can not be listed as an associate of the trust or trustee company – and neither will show on the individual’s myGovID as a result. The update is due to be rolled out before AUSKey is decommissioned, but there has been no guidance as yet on a specific date for this.
